Validity is a research project by the GEOMAR Deep Sea Monitoring Team, which has developed specialized software for annotating and analyzing underwater objects. Its goal: to make industrial underwater exploration more efficient through AI-based automation, optimized workflows, and intuitive user guidance. Cap3 supports the project with user-centered interface development — targeted UX optimizations make the application more accessible, easier to use, and seamlessly integrated into everyday work.
// Challenge
Good software is only as effective as its usability.
While the first version was technically advanced, practical use revealed optimization potential in terms of user experience. The high complexity and wide range of functions created uncertainties in handling, which reduced efficiency and made it particularly challenging for less experienced users to get started.
// Solution
Systematically improved — in close dialogue with the customer.
To specifically enhance the software’s usability, Cap3 worked with the ValidITy team — developers, project coordinators, and scientists — to design a new, clearly structured navigation logic. A consistent visual system with optimized typography and harmonized interaction elements ensures orientation and clarity. Interactive prototypes enabled early and targeted user feedback. A comprehensive visual redesign significantly improved readability, contrast, and UI hierarchy. In addition, the first components of a design system and style guide were created to ensure consistent and efficient future expansions. The new appearance is completed by a distinctive monogram logo that communicates the application’s purpose and context in a simple, memorable way.
