Prototyping for innovative success

At the beginning of every development process, there is a joint presentation of the end product and the review of the technical feasibility of the project. To make this easier, prototypes are produced in various sizes. However, a good prototype offers much more than just an initial illustration of the idea — when cleverly placed, it can also convince investors or potential customers and help achieve a better end result.

Prozess des Prototypings.

Even though, from a user's point of view, the core functionality of the desired software is often explained in just a few sentences, the ideas of the expected end result can differ significantly in the minds of those involved.

Prototypes — which can be developed software components or advanced “click dummies” that already cover certain core features of the planned application — help the customer and the developer equally at this point. On the one hand, a prototype can create an even better joint idea of the end product, and on the other hand, the feasibility, choice of technology and the ultimate effort required to develop the application can be significantly better estimated for the developer.

The good thing about it is that the effort required to create a prototype is low compared to the development of the actual application. In addition, any conceptual weak points can be better identified and the functions can be reconsidered. The early user tests and the resulting corrections to the concept save costs, because the earlier errors are discovered and changes are made in the development phase, the cheaper the development will ultimately be. Prototypes can also be changed and expanded quickly and without unforeseeable side effects due to their lower complexity compared to a programmed software program. This makes it possible to refine the concept in several loops in consultation with the customer — the more innovative the product, the more important prototyping.

Target prototype

At Cap3, we are convinced of the many benefits of prototyping. For example, for PPI AG, we developed a Prototype app as a showcase for the new payment standard “Instant Payment”. In such a case, which involves revolutionizing modern payment processing, the development of a prototype to evaluate feasibility and usability is a logical first step.

Prototypes always make great sense when the idea is very abstract at first and not really clear at the beginning where the journey is heading. As in the case of the one developed by us Goodway advertising design app with augmented reality (AR) feature. Through an initially purely prototypical implementation of the AR feature, the concept could be tested and demonstrated.

We would also be happy to assist you in visualizing and testing your idea in the form of an elaborate prototype!
